Collection contains 19 letters written by Corporal William S. Wall to his mother Clementina Wall of Cynthiana, Ky. Wall fought with Company E of the Second Kentucky Cavalry in John Hunt Morgan's Cavalry Brigade. Letters date from 2 November 1863 to 18 February 1865. Wall writes about his experiences as a prisoner of war at Rock Island Prison (Ill.), and requests news and items from his mother such as clothing, books, tobacco, and stamps to pass the time.
